What is Learned
|
- How to play and sing advanced rhythmic patterns. - Application of the solfeggio system to repertoire. - The ability to sing solo lines. - The ability to sing both the melody and harmony for two-part music. - How to sing in four different languages. - The poise and discipline required to successfully perform in public and for competitions.

How it’s Learned
|
- Rhythm is learned through the Dalcroze method of movement and playing instruments. - Modified Kodaly method. - Individual and small group vocal instruction. - A variety of repertoire is presented beginning with unison singing, progressing to rounds, partner songs, parallel harmonies and finally to singing in parts. - Pronunciation of foreign languages through rote learning (by ear) with a native speaker.
- Self-paced study of the AYS
Choral Techniques and Music Theory Workbook, assisted
by volunteer coaches.

Rehearsals
|

Once a week on either Tuesday or Wednesday afternoon from
4:45 – 6:15 p.m.
- Rehearsals are held at the Mable
House Cultural Center, Porter
Sanford Performing Arts & Community Center, All Saints
Catholic Church, and at the Callanwolde
Fine Arts Center.
- The program is concurrent with the school year. Beginning
in August and continuing through May. Specific dates can be
found on our Calendar.

Performances
|
The
Training Choir regularly performs recitals for friends and
family.
|
|
Tours
|

Training choristers are eligible to audition for Training
Tours.
- Selection to participate in a tour is based on musical ability as well as good group behavior skills. - The cost to participate in a tour varies depending on the tour destination and duration.
|
|
Camp
|
- All students are eligible to attend a week of summer camp filled with music and traditional camp activities.
- The cost of camp averages $500 to $550/student.

How to Audition
|
- Singers should be prepared to sing any unaccompanied song of their choice. - Auditions are held in the late spring and summer prior to the new season. - Occasionally auditions are held in December.
|
|
Tuition
|

Annual tuition is $525 plus a $50 registration fee.
- Scholarships are available based on financial need and musical ability.

Uniforms
|
Black
pants and an AYS uniform shirt and a black skirt for girls.
