Paige Fumbanks Mathis, Music DirectorPaige Fumbanks Mathis, Music Director, Atlanta Young Singers of Callanwolde
Paige Fumbanks Mathis was named Music Director of ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS of Callanwolde in May of 1998 and is the first holder of the Stephen J. Ortlip chair. Ms. Mathis received her undergraduate degree in Music Education from Jacksonville State University and her Master of Music degree in conducting from the Conservatory of Music of the University of Missouri - Kansas City. She founded the Youth Chorale in 1994 as an expansion program of Atlanta Young Singers. She is a long-standing member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Chamber Chorus where she sang and recorded under the baton of the late Robert Shaw. Ms. Mathis is also a proud AYS alumna.

 

Virginia M. Thompson, Executive Director
Virginia M. Thompson was named Executive Director in November of 2004. She served on the AYS Board of Directors for six years, including 3 years as Treasurer. A graduate of Wellesley College with a B.A. in Music, Ms. Thompson also studied Vocal Performance and Music Production & Engineering at Berklee College of Music. She sings professionally with the Atlanta Singers, directs and sings in the women’s a cappella group YES, VIRGINIA! and has been a member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus for 14 seasons. Ms. Thompson has worked in nonprofit management for over 20 years.

Michelle Spruell, Office Coordinator

Michelle Spruell was named Office Coordinator in November 2009. Born in Philadelphia, she moved to the Atlanta area at the age of 1. She studied at Georgia Southern University and worked at Spruell Motorsport for almost two decades. A committed volunteer and parent, Ms. Spruell has donated many hours to AYS in the last 3 years and served on PTA boards at Livesey Elementary and Henderson Middle Schools. Her daughter Natalie is in the AYS Youth Chorale!

Casey J. Hobbs, Recruitment & Communications Manager

Casey J. Hobbs was named Recruitment & Communications Manager in May of 2010. An Atlanta native, she received her undergraduate degree in Child and Family Development: Early Childhood Education from the University of Georgia. Casey spent most of her undergraduate career as the president of the African American Choral Ensemble while participating heavily in a number of other musical avenues. Ms. Hobbs is a former DeKalb County Educator and is currently a professional background singer and working musician. Casey is also a proud alumna of the Atlanta Young Singers!

Brianne M. Turgeon, Assistant Music Director

Brianne M. Turgeon was named Assistant Music Director in October 2000. Ms.
Turgeon has her undergraduate degree in Music Education from the University of
Georgia and her Master of Music Education from the University of Southern
Mississippi (Hattiesburg). She has taught music in the Butts County Schools, Gordon
Junior College, Rockdale County Schools, and is presently with the Atlanta Public
Schools. She is an active member of both the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and
Chamber Chorus, and the a cappella women’s group YES, VIRGINIA!

William F. Nittler, Education Director

William F. Nittler was named Education Director in September of 1999. He studied at
the University of Colorado at Boulder and received his undergraduate degree in music
from Berklee College of Music (Boston). Mr. Nittler teaches woodwinds at the
Neighborhood Music School, is an active free-lancer, and can be heard playing
everything from jazz to klezmer to swing.

Greg Hucks, Young Men's Choir Instructor

Greg Hucks, named Young Men's Choir Instructor in September 2007, is a native
of North Carolina who has called Georgia home since 1987. He is the
Music/Choral Specialist at Warren T. Jackson Elementary and previously directed
music programs at Sarah Smith Elementary and Sprayberry High School, where he
earned a reputation for creativity and development of new programs. Mr. Hucks
also works as a regular Music Instructor with The Atlanta Children's Theatre
Company. He is a long-standing member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra
Chorus and Chamber Chorus and has also worked as a Producer, DJ, and
Entertainment Manager at Greg Dean Music.

William Krape, Accompanist
William Krape has been a member of the music staff of AYSC for 25 years. He is an accomplished pianist and organist and frequently gives recitals in the Atlanta area. He is also the Organist /Choirmaster at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Atlanta. In addition to his gifts as an instrumentalist, Mr. Krape is a talented composer and arranger and has written many pieces for AYSC.
