ATLANTA YOUNG SINGERS has had much to celebrate at this past season. In the past six months, AYS Singers performed the National Anthem at Turner Field, recorded a radio commercial for a local business, joined the professional choir Anúna on stage at Atlanta's Symphony Hall, celebrated our 32nd Annual Music of the Holidays with two performances for Atlanta audiences, performed by special invitation at the Georgia Music Educators Association (GMEA) conference in Savannah, GA, and performed La Luna Asoma: Inspired by Lorca at Sisters Chapel featuring the world premiere of Ciudad Sin Sueño: Three Images by David Marcus commissioned for AYS.

Still to come this season, the Training Choir and Introduction to Music Making Choir will perform a Spring Recital featuring Singer compositions and guest artists from Moving in the Spirit, Junior Company at 11:00 AM on March 29 at Callanwolde Fine Arts Center (980 Briarcliff Road, NE, Atlanta, 30306). In addition, all of the AYS Choirs will perform Innovation and Creation at Dunwoody United Methodist Church (1548 Mt. Vernon Road, Dunwoody, 30338) at 8:00 PM on May 10. As a participant in a consortium bid with 20 choruses around the world, AYS will end its 2007-2008 on a high note with the premiere of the commissioned Like a Singing Bird by composer Bob Chilcott. In May 2007, Chilcott's donated commission gained national attention at the 30th Annual Chorus America Conference by earning a bid of nearly $30,000. The AYS Treble Tour Choir will participate in the Pacific Rim Children's Chorus Festival in Hawaii this summer.

What to expect at your AYS AUDITION:

Children audition in a relaxed atmosphere that allows them to become acquainted with Staff Members.  Each child is asked to prepare a song they know well and can present confidently. The song is performed unaccompanied in a one-on-one situation with Music Director, Paige Mathis or another AYS Music Staff Member . Children are evaluated in the areas of vocal tone, pitch accuracy, pitch dependence, aural skill and personal interest in music. Older children and Youth Chorale applicants may also be asked to demonstrate their skill levels in reading and counting music.

While the child spends time with the Music Director or music staff member, parents have the opportunity to talk with another staff member or parent volunteer about AYS . An audition packet is presented, and time is allowed for questions.
