At least one year with the AYS Training
Choir
or equivalent.
- Applicants that have not participated in the Training Chorus
will audition by singing
an unaccompanied song and be tested for basic music reading,
independent singing and music theory skills. Current AYS Singers
in the Training Choir may audition for the Treble Concert

What is Learned
|
At
this level, students are expected to read music and have command
of the basic choral skills of rhythm and pitch. The Treble
Concert Choir continues to refine good vocal production, choral
diction, and performance discipline, including:
- Application of solfeggio system to repertoire with limited help from instructors. - Count-singing. - How to recognize stylistic changes in international music, e.g. Classical, Baroque, Renaissance, folk, contemporary classical, etc. - Independently sing in three to four part music. - Develop vocal habits that support good intonation and diction.

How it’s Learned
|
- Drill and practice of the Kodaly method with guidance from older singers. - Development of more advanced rhythmic skills through movement, counting, creating and notating their own rhythmic compositions. - Exposure to many musical styles supported with education about the culture, time period, place and people. - Independent part-singing is learned through working in small ensembles - Vocal exercises and feedback encourage good vocal habits and skill development.

Rehearsals
|
- Once a week on Monday afternoon from 4:45 – 6:15 p.m. - Occasional Saturday workshops. - Rehearsals are held at the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center. - The program is concurrent with the school year. Beginning in August and continuing through May. Specific dates can be found on our Calendar..

Performances
|
The Apprentice Choir performs on four subscription concerts plus about six performances for charities, civic organizations and businesses.
|
|
Tours
|

Treble Concer Choir choristers are eligible to audition for
Regional and Major Tours as
part of the Treble Tour Choir.
- Selection to participate in a tour is based on musical ability as well as good group behavior skills. - The cost to participate in a tour varies depending on the tour destination.
|
|
Camp
|
- All students are eligible to attend a week of summer camp filled with music and traditional camp activities.
- The cost of camp averages $500 to $550/student.
|
|
Tuition
|

Annual tuition is $525 plus a $50 registration fee.
- Scholarships are available based on financial need and musical ability.
|
|
Uniforms
|
- Formal: black skirt and top for girls with accessory pieces; black pants, black shirt and black tie for boys
- Informal: black pants and AYS uniform shirt and black skirt
for girls.
