LA
LUNA ASOMA: Inspired by Lorca
AYS
celebrated the work of Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca,
March 1, at Sisters Chapel. The evening featured the
world premiere of the commissioned piece,
Ciudad Sin Sueño: Three Images,
written for AYS by composer David Marcus. The AYS
Youth Chorale and Treble Concert Choir were joined by faculty
guest soloists from Spelman College, Morehouse College and
Clark Atlanta University. Special guest artists Vecinos

ATLANTA
YOUNG SINGERS of Callanwolde and Music Director Paige F.
Mathis presented two fabulous performances of 32nd
Annual Music of the Holidays on December 16
at the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception and
December 18 at Druid Hills United Methodist Church.
This year's repertoire featured traditional pieces from
Eastern Europe alongside AYS favorites Tomorrow Shall
Be My Dancing Day and Franz Biebl's Ave Maria.
The Singers were joined by guest artists the Zeliazkov
Family Band on December 16 and the Atlanta
Balalaika Orchestra on December 18. As tradition
would have it, the AYS Alumni and Dads Choruses also joined
current Singers on December 18 for This Little Babe
and the Boar's Head Carol. Audiences were
delighted to hear the beloved Carol of the Bells
performed entirely in Ukrainian in its original form, Shchedrik.
Congratulations to the Singers, Staff and our corps of volunteers
for another wonderful year of holiday music.
